Sara S. Sparrow, Ph.D.

Sara S. Sparrow, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology and Chief Psychologist at Yale University's Child Study Center. Dr. Sparrow is the author of more than 100 articles and chapters in the fields of psychological assessment and developmental disabilities, and is the senior author of the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, one of the most widely used psychological instruments available. Her main research interests involve the assessment of adaptive behavior, child neuropsychology, and developmental disabilities.

Domenic V. Cicchetti

Domenic V. Cicchetti, Ph.D., is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and holds three academic positions in the Yale University School of Medicine: Senior Research Scientist, Senior Biostatistician, and Senior Research Psychologist. With a primary appointment at the Child Study Center, he also holds joint appointments in the Departments of Epidemiology and Public Health, Biometry, and Psychiatry. He also holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Windsor, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

He is coauthor of the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, and author or coauthor of 200 research publications in behavioral and biomedical research, computer science, and biostatistics. He is a Fellow in Division 5 of the American Statistical Association (Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics) and is internationally known for his work in the development, assessment of psychometric properties, and application of major clinical instruments in behavioral and biomedical research. A number of these clinical instruments are widely considered to be standards in the field. He is also the author of a number of innovative statistical methodologies, primarily in the areas of reliability and validity assessment.

Dr. Alan S. Kaufman and Dr. Nadeen L. Kaufman have been at Yale University's Child Study Center in the School of Medicine since 1997, as Clinical Professor of Psychology and Lecturer on the clinical faculty, respectively. Together they combine expertise in psychometrics, test construction, and clinical assessment. A student of Robert L. Thorndike at Columbia University, Alan served a "clinical apprenticeship" with David Wechsler and Dorothea McCarthy while employed from 1968 to 1974 as assistant director of test research and supervisor of statistics in the test division of The Psychological Corporation. He helped develop the McCarthy Scales and Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) and supervised the standardization of both tests.

Nadeen, who earned graduate degrees in psychology, reading and learning disabilities, and special education (neuroscience) from Columbia University, has been a teacher of learning-disabled children, school psychologist, learning disabilities specialist, university professor, and founder-director of several psychoeducational clinics. She also was a direct participant in the development and standardization of the McCarthy Scales and WISC-R .

From 1974 to 1997, Alan and Nadeen trained school psychologists and clinical psychologists, and supervised graduate-student research, at the University of Georgia, the National College of Education in Evanston, Illinois, the California School of Professional Psychology, San Diego campus, and the University of Alabama. The research team that they supervised while at the University of Georgia in 1978-79 to develop the original K-ABC included several individuals who went on to become international leaders in assessment.

In addition to the K-ABC, which has been translated, adapted, and standardized in more than 15 countries, Alan and Nadeen have developed a variety of other psychological and educational tests published by Pearson, including the Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement (K-TEA/NU) , Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (K-BIT) , and the second editions of both ( KTEA-II and KBIT-2 ). The Kaufman Survey of Early Academic and Language Skills (K-SEALS) and the Cognitive/Language Profile of the Early Screening Profiles address the preschool level. The Kaufman Adolescent and Adult Intelligence Test (KAIT) , the Kaufman Short Neuropsychological Assessment Procedure (K-SNAP) , and the Kaufman Functional Academic Skills Test (K-FAST) extend through the adult life span.

Alan, a co-editor of the journal Research in the Schools from 1992-2004, serves on the board of five professional journals and has published 17 books and more than 200 articles, reviews, and chapters in professional journals and books in the fields of school psychology, special education, clinical psychology, neuropsychology, and educational psychology. Among Alan's books are Intelligent Testing with the WISC-R (1979), Intelligent Testing with the WISC-III (1994), Assessing Adolescent and Adult Intelligence (1990; 2nd ed. with Liz Lichtenberger, 2002), and several that he has co-authored for Wiley's Essentials of Assessment series , including Essentials of WPPSI-III Assessment (with Liz Lichtenberger, 2004), Essentials of WISC-IV Assessment (with Dawn Flanagan, 2004), and Essentials of KABC-II Assessment (with Liz Lichtenberger and Nadeen, 2004). Alan and Nadeen co-edit this series and are co-founding editors of two other Wiley series, Essentials of Mental Health Practice and Essentials of Behavioral Science .

Other projects include co-authoring Clinical Evaluation of Young Children with the McCarthy Scales (1977) and Essentials of Assessment Report Writing (with Liz Lichtenberger and Nancy Mather, 2004), and co-editing Specific Learning Disabilities and Difficulties in Children and Adolescents: Psychological Assessment and Evaluation (2001). In addition, many of Nadeen's case reports have been published in a variety of books, and she has authored or co-authored many articles, chapters, and reviews in professional journals and books. Nadeen is a former associate editor of School Psychology Review.

Alan is a fellow of four divisions of the American Psychological Association (APA) and of the American Psychological Society, and is a recipient of the Mensa Education and Research Foundation Award for Excellence (1989) and the Mid-South Educational Research Association Outstanding Research Award (1988 & 1993). In 1997, he was awarded APA's prestigious Senior Scientist Award from Division 16 (School Psychology). Nadeen is a Fellow of APA's Division 16 (School Psychology) and of the American Psychological Society.

Cecil R. Reynolds, Ph.D.

Cecil R. Reynolds

A Distinguished Research Scholar at Texas A & M University, Dr. Reynolds is a Professor of Educational Psychology and a Professor of Neuroscience. He is well known for his work in psychological testing and assessment, and is the author or editor of more than 30 books, including The Handbook of School Psychology, the Encyclopedia of Special Education, and the Handbook of Psychological and Educational Assessment of Children. He also authored the widely used Test of Memory and Learning (TOMAL) and the Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale. He has published a total of more than 300 scholarly works

Dr. Reynolds has received a number of national awards for his work. These include the Lightner Witmer Award from the American Psychological Association (APA), Early Career Awards from both the Educational Psychology and Evaluation Measurement and Statistics divisions of APA, and the Robert Chin Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. In 1999, he received the APA Division of School Psychology's Senior Scientist Award, and in 2000, the National Academy of Neuropsychology Distinguished Neuropsychologist Award.

Along with his scholarly achievements, Dr. Reynolds maintains a clinical practice. He is editor-in-chief of Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology, and serves on the editorial boards of 13 journals. Active in professional affairs, he has served as President of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, as a member of APA's Committee on Psychological Tests and Assessment, and on the executive boards of three APA divisions as well as the National Association of School Psychologists. He is Past-President of two APA divisions, Clinical Neuropsychology (40), and Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics (5).

Dr. Reynolds is a frequent guest lecturer and speaker.

R.W. Kamphaus, Ph.D. R.W. Kamphaus

Dr. Kamphaus is a Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Georgia. In addition to classroom work, he has served in roles such as Director of Training for the doctoral program in School Psychology, Director of the School Psychology Clinic, and as Faculty Administrator for Research in the College of Education.

A focus on issues related to clinical assessment has led Dr. Kamphaus to pursue research in classification methods, differential diagnosis, test development, and learning disability and ADHD assessment. He has served as principal investigator, co-investigator or consultant on several federally funded research projects dealing with early intervention and prevention, child classification methods, prevalence of ADHD and Conduct Disorder in Latin America, and violence prevention in schools.

As a licensed psychologist and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), he has contributed extensively to his profession, and he is Past-President of the Division of School Psychology for APA. Dr. Kamphaus has authored or co-authored five books, two psychological tests, more than 40 scientific journal articles and more than 20 book chapters. He also participates in scholarship in the field through work as an editorial board member, associate editor, test reviewer and newsletter editor.

Dr. Kamphaus is a frequent guest lecturer and speaker.
